Job summary

Loft Federal is seeking a Mechanical System Engineer to lead mechanical system design for multi-payload satellite missions, collaborating with BD and PM teams to shape objectives and specifications.

You will develop CAD layouts, perform system trades, and ensure budgets align with customer requirements while coordinating across engineering and production teams in a fast-paced space environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with detailed knowledge of spacecraft structures.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Understanding of GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with vibration testing and test oversight.
  • Ability to lead mechanical system design and subsystem procurements.
  • Experience delivering hardware for spaceflight programs.

As a Mechanical System Engineer, you'll embark on a dynamic journey, working with business development and program management teams to shape multiple satellite missions simultaneously, each boasting a unique multi-payload configuration. Your role will transcend boundaries as you collaborate seamlessly across various teams, including program management, systems engineering, discipline engineering, and AI & T.


In this role, you'll not only contribute to the success of our satellite missions but also have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse and dynamic team, fostering innovation and driving impactful solutions in the ever-evolving space industry.


Mission Objectives


  • Technical lead for mechanical system design and subsystem procurements

  • Create and maintain CAD models collaborating with internal teams and our customers to conduct mechanical layout

  • Perform system optimization trades analyzing system performance and maintaining technical budgets

  • Oversee spacecraft level structural and thermal analysis

  • Engage closely with internal teams and customers to craft and manage system specifications and verification techniques, ensuring alignment with ambiguous customer requirements.

  • Provide support to program management and product management, serving as a liaison with customers ensuring smooth program execution.

  • Conduct inspections and reviews of engineering documents and hardware.

  • Extend your expertise to support test planning and actively participate in the integration and test campaigns at our spacecraft manufacturer's site, ensuring adherence to rigorous quality standards.


Mission Mandates


  • Active Top Secret clearance is required with the ability to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance is required.

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a DoD or Intelligence Community Top Secret background investigation with at least 3 years of eligibility remaining or CE status; and SCI eligibility with current experience in SCI programs and/or Special Access Programs

  • Must be a US Citizen

  • You have comprehensive system-level knowledge and experience in mechanical subsystems.

  • Prior experience delivering a spacecraft to orbit and/or space-qualified hardware to a customer.

  • You have 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with detailed knowledge of spacecraft structures

  • Detailed understanding of GD & T and tolerance analysis.

  • Proficiency with Solidworks or similar CAD software

  • Pragmatic vibration testing experience (pre-test inputs, test oversight, data reduction, report generation).

$131,750 - $178,250 USD
