Job summary

CSX Transportation, Inc. is seeking a supervisor to manage the quality repair and inspection of rail cars within a yard and on the line-of-road.

The role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance with AAR/FRA, and continuous improvement in safety, budget, quality and production. The position requires coordinating safety briefings, leading teams, and forecasting staffing and material needs to meet business objectives.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, or related fields.
• Associates degree or higher required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred for advanced roles.
• Able to report to work with short notice and adapt to shift schedules.

Responsibilities

• Execute and communicate safety plans established by management and safety committees.
• Lead safety briefings and promote safe work procedures.
• Conduct safety observations to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Identify and communicate hazards; elevate issues for resolution.
• Manage inspection activities across yard, shop, and line-of-road.
• Coach and develop staff; cover Senior General Foreman in absence.
• Plan daily shop and yard strategies and prioritize workload.
• Forecast staffing and material needs to meet business objectives.

Job Summary

Manages the quality repair of rail cars and inspects rail cars for defects and unsafe conditions within a train yard and on the line-of-road. Ensures that the work is performed safely according to CSX Transportation (CSXT) safety rules, and is compliant with the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations. Effectively implements best practices in safety, budget, quality and production, and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement within assigned area of responsibility. Manages self and others assertively. Handles conflict and solves problems as they occur. Encourages others to work cooperatively

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

• Execute and communicate the safety plan outlined by the department, shop management, and safety committees.
• Facilitate thorough safety and job briefings to promote safe practices and proper procedures for completing assigned tasks.
• Conduct safety observations and observational tests to ensure compliance.
• Eliminate, control, and communicate hazards and safety issues within the shop and yard, elevating for resolution as necessary.
• Manage activities of car inspection, train yard, and line-of-road ensuring that required work is performed to meet CSXT, FRA, and AAR standards.
• Coach, develop, and train others to achieve desirable results. Assume role of the Senior General Foreman in their absence.
• Develop and prioritize daily shop and yard strategies.
• Forecast staffing, scheduling of personnel, and material requirements to meet business objectives.
• Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associates Degree/2-year Degree
• 1 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Business/Strategic Management, Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical), or the Military

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 1 or more years of supervisory experience in Mechanical Operations

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
• 3 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Business/Strategic Management, Skilled Trades (building/construction, electrical, mechanical), or the Military
