Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Sector seeks a Structural Analysis Engineer at Level 3 or 4 located in Dulles or McLean, VA. The role focuses on static and dynamic analysis of spacecraft structures, with responsibilities spanning requirements review, data selection, design reasoning, and documentation.

As a Structural Analysis Engineer - Level 3 or 4 located in Dulles or McLean, VA, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. Team Overview

The East Engineering Vehicle and Mechanical Engineering team is looking for a Structural Analysis Engineer to assist an experienced team of mechanical engineers performing mechanical and structural analysis on one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities

• Performing static and dynamic structure analysis.
• Reviewing requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
• Selecting appropriate technical information and data from applicable products.
• Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and computing the engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications design needs and requirements of space applications.
• Releasing results as "technical documents" after review by the senior members of the team.
• Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts.
• Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups, and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications

This requisition may be filled at either Level 3 or 4.

Basic Qualifications for Mechanical/Structural Engineer 3

• Bachelor's degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineer, Math or related area (Mechanical Engineering or Degrees with a focus in Structural Analysis highly preferred)5+ years of experience OR Master's Degree and 3+ years, OR a PhD.
• Must have an active Top Secret security clearance at time of application
• Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
• Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case by case basis).

Basic Qualifications for Mechanical/Structural Engineer 4

• Bachelor's degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineer, Math or related area (Mechanical Engineering or Degrees with a focus in Structural Analysis highly preferred) 8+ years of experience, Master's Degree and 6+ years, OR a PhD and 3+ years.
• Must have an active Top Secret security clearance at time of application
• Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
• Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case by case basis).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with spacecraft or subsystem static/dynamic testing
• Experience utilizing MATLAB
