Job summary

Your Opportunity

The MCF (Mission Critical Facilities) Senior Project Engineer, Mechanical guides the technical design of data center projects as a subject matter expert, mentor, and resource to the technical team. The role delegates, leads, and directs the work of Project Engineers and Designers, conceptualizes, executes, and ensures quality throughout the design process to meet client needs and expectations. This position includes supervisory and mentoring responsibilities for junior staff.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Assists the business development team in new project pursuits by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participates in project interviews and presentations.
  • Manages technical project process and scope of work within own discipline; reviews and tracks scope, schedule, and budgeted hours; resolves inconsistencies with the project manager.
  • Delegates tasks to project engineers and designers as appropriate.
  • Follows quality management process; conducts project reviews and approvals before all QA/QC reviews are completed by the technical authority.
  • Builds and maintains strong client relations; understands and articulates project and design requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff.
  • Leads technical discussions and mechanical workgroups with project stakeholders; identifies key requirements and adapts design to meet project objectives.
  • Coordinates with all disciplines to integrate work and client requests into design.
  • Acts as supervisor and resource to the technical design team; supports staff education, training, and development.
  • Participates in the data center engineering/professional community to build personal knowledge, stay updated on new requirements and technologies, and pursue professional growth.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables across Stantec MCF business centers.
  • Contributes to development of design guides, technical memos, calculation templates, etc. related to data center design.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Extensive experience in mission critical/data center design concepts.
  • Experience working on large‑scale projects with varied stakeholders.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, concepts, principles, codes, and standards in own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Able to conceptualize and develop solutions for multifaceted systems and interactions with varied components.
  • Strong communicator who effectively conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients, coworkers, and technical teams.
  • Adept at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Proficient in applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, Trace 700). Working knowledge or proficiency in hydraulic modeling (e.g., Pipe‑Flo) and CFD (e.g., Fluent, 6Sigma) preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction process and interaction with design.
  • Equipped to analyze, problem‑solve, and train others; organized and attentive to detail; flexible and collaborative.
  • Able to independently resolve complex problems within the engineer’s discipline.
Education and Experience
  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 10+ years of related industry experience preferred.
  • Mission critical/data center experience required.
  • Registered professional engineer (PE) license or other professional certification based on expertise required.
Pay Range
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA: $117,800.00 – $176,800.00 annually.
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA: $126,400.00 – $189,600.00 annually.
