CF Rail Services in Meridian, MS is seeking a Mechanical Railcar Repair Technician 1 to perform repairs and maintenance on various railcars. You will work with hand and power tools, operate equipment, and document work orders while upholding CFRS safety and quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and can pass FRA Freight Car Safety Standards courses. This role supports CF Rail Services’ North American railcar repair operations with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or 1–3 months related experience/training
  • Must pass FRA Freight Car Safety Standards courses coordinated by CF Rail Management
  • Understand railcars, components and billing repair cards
  • Adhere to CFRS, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs such as mechanical, grinding, cleaning and touch up painting on various railcars
  • Set up and operate hand and power tools (air arc, plasma cutting, huck machines, oxy fuel)
  • Document training to set up and operate or drive Equipment (forklift, man lift, crane, skid loader, hoist, hydraulic boom)
  • Proficiently document work performed on work orders and repairs
  • Learn and adhere to CFRS safety procedures and quality standards

Delivering the highest-quality railcar repairs quickly and safely with uncompromising customer service, CF Rail Services is a leading railcar repair and maintenance provider offering quality repair work for railroads, private car owners, lessors, contracts agents, and shippers across North America.This position is for 1st shift.The Mechanical Railcar Repair Technician 1 role is responsible for the repair of various types of railcars.Role and ResponsibilitiesPerform repairs such as, but not limited to, mechanical, grinding, cleaning, and touch up painting on various types of railcars as required.Set up and operate various hand and power tools such as, but not limited to, air arc, plasma cutting, huck machines and processes, and oxy fuel operation in heating and cutting processes.Documented training to set up and operate or drive equipment such as, but not limited to: forklift, man lift, crane, skid loader, hoist or hydraulic boom.Proficient in documenting work performed on work order, and record of additional repairsSuccessfully complete this position “Education/Formal Training” requirements.Maintain a high level of quality with an understanding of CFRS’ quality assurance program.Must learn develop a complete understanding of various railcars, components and billing repair cards.Keep work area in a clean and orderly manner so as to comply with CFRS, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations.Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.Set an example and conduct activities consistent with the core values of CFRS contributing to a positive environment for communication, empowerment, and continuous improvement.Learn and adhere to all CFRS safety procedures.Learn the basic flow and logistics of railroad industry and repair business.Wear PPE in appropriate areasQualifications and Education requirementEducation/Formal Training (preferred, but not limited to): High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Successfully pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management:FRA Freight Car Safety StandardsSkillsEssential Skills:Team playerEffective listening skillsHighly effective communication skills verbally and in writingLanguage skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English language.Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Reasoning skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Note: Responsibilities include the expectation to always act to support the interests of the department and organization and to perform other duties as assigned to ensure the successful achievement of departmental and company objectives.Physical DemandsWork assignments involve standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods of time at various heights up to 20 feet. Uses hands, legs, and arms to climb vertical ladders to staging or suspended platforms. Lifts, carries, and sets up equipment and components that weigh up to 50 lbs. Employee must be medically certified to wear a respirator, as well as be able to wear respirators for prolonged periods of time.Ability to operate electrical and pneumatic toolsAbility to operate heavy equipment (Cranes, Jacks)Ability to operate Forklifts, Mobile Service Trucks, Boom LiftsWork EnvironmentWork will be performed outdoors and indoors in all types of weather, on and around heavy equipment. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
