Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks a Technical Engineering Specialist (Mechanical) to design, fabricate, document, and test electromechanical assemblies in a fast-paced, defense-oriented team. You will work closely with engineers and support staff across multiple PSU sites in State College area, with travel for demonstrations and deployments.

Applicants should have an Associate Degree with 2+ years of relevant experience (or 4+ for advanced levels), strong CAD skills

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree with 2+ years minimum for mid roles or 4++ years for advanced roles; equivalent education accepted.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with CAD software and assembly fabrication is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate test fixtures and prototypes under supervision.
  • Collaborate with engineers to instrument electromechanical assemblies.
  • Conduct and document laboratory experiments and support safety.
  • Assist with vendor sourcing and cost tracking; maintain shop organization.
  • Travel domestically for demonstrations and deployments as needed.
