Johnson Controls is seeking a Mechanical Project Team Leader to drive the execution and performance of retrofit projects while supporting customers, project teams, and sales efforts. In this role, you will help deliver mechanical work with a strong focus on safety, financial performance, quality, and customer satisfaction.

What you will do

You will oversee the day-to-day coordination and overall control of mechanical retrofit projects, working under general supervision and following Johnson Controls standard practices. This role blends project management, estimating, customer communication, technical support, and field coordination to help ensure assigned projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in line with contract requirements.

How you will do it
  • Plan, execute, and control assigned mechanical retrofit projects from start to finish.

  • Coordinate the daily activities of Mechanics and subcontractors to support productive field execution.

  • Secure new work and change orders from the existing customer base and support value‑added scope opportunities.

  • Prepare mechanical estimates, review estimates, and present proposals to customers.

  • Serve as a technical resource for Sales and support project development and pre‑bid reviews.

  • Recruit, hire, and supervise resources needed to staff the project team.

  • Interface with Truck Based teams to help control manpower and maintain appropriate staffing levels.

  • Review contract terms and conditions and support project execution in line with contract requirements.

  • Coordinate drawing layouts and detailing to support proper installation.

  • Monitor financial reporting, project schedules, costs, billings, payables, and collections to identify risk early and support recovery actions when needed.

  • Use Johnson Controls tracking and reporting tools to communicate project progress and financial status to management.

  • Oversee compliance with specifications, local codes, installation techniques, and safety standards.

  • Manage material procurement, warehousing, and logistics activities to support project delivery.

  • Maintain strong customer and subcontractor relationships, attend job progress meetings, and ensure expectations are clearly understood.

  • Coordinate owner training requirements and support transition to the appropriate Johnson Controls Truck‑based team.

How You Will Do It
  • Own the outcome by taking accountability for safety, scope, quality, schedule, and financial results on every assigned project.

  • Stay close to the work by working directly with Mechanics, subcontractors, customers, and Sales to remove obstacles quickly and keep projects moving.

  • Improve every day by using clear reporting, candid issue escalation, and practical recovery plans to address risk before it impacts delivery.

  • Win as one team by building trust across project, field, logistics, and sales partners and by valuing different perspectives in problem‑solving.

  • Use standardized processes to ensure consistent project execution, accurate documentation, and reliable communication with management and customers.

  • Lead with safety and integrity by reinforcing safe work practices and expecting the same standard from Johnson Controls team members and subcontractors.

Qualifications
  • Six or more years of comprehensive technical and operational experience in the service business, particularly with smaller fast‑track retrofit, remodel, and tenant improvement projects, or eight or more years for a higher‑level assignment.

  • Experience leading Mechanics on a portfolio of projects typically up to $2M in revenue for Level 1 or $3M-$4M in revenue for Level 2.

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to a non‑technical audience.

  • Proficiency with project management software and financial accounting systems.

  • Strong personal computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, and the basic Windows environment.

  • Ability to review financial reporting systems and project schedules to manage risk and support project performance.

  • Willingness to travel as required, with travel varying by project assignment and projects potentially outside your assigned geography.

Nice to Have
  • Two to four years of engineering or trade school training, such as an engineering degree or equivalent.

  • Installation and service experience related to HVAC mechanical systems and equipment.
