Job summary

Trinseo, a global materials company, is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer (Chemical Manufacturing) onsite at Bristol, PA. You will identify, evaluate, and coordinate design and implementation of capital and expense projects with manufacturing teams, engineering, R&D, and external resources to deliver value.

The role emphasizes adherence to the plant budget, driving improvements for reliability and safety, leading MI inspections, and supporting Safety programs in line with Process Safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical industry environment.
  • Experience in improvement, maintenance, mechanical reliability, or projects.
  • Self-motivated and capable decision-maker.
  • Project management skills; Stage Gate preferred.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety and Mechanical Integrity is a plus.
  • Capital Project Management experience.
  • Ability to learn SAP and use reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill the role of project manager for plant capital and expense projects to meet the yearly budget commitments.
  • Provide supervision and support for project managers designee; act as mechanical engineering resource; prepare expense reports and budget forecast plan.
  • Identify and define improvement opportunities to increase mechanical reliability of equipment.
  • Manage the mechanical integrity (MI) inspection program; prepare yearly MI schedule; implement remediations; maintain MI documents.
  • Support HE&S safety programs and initiatives.

The purpose of the Mechanical Project Engineer (Chemical Manufacturing)role is to identify, evaluate and coordinate the design and implementation of capital and expense improvement projects working with manufacturing teams, engineering personnel, R&D representatives and other in-plant or outside technical resources to complete projects.

They handle the organizational and administrative work involved in project implementation in the plant and are directly responsible for adhering to the plant capital budget. Project work is typically driven by turnaround time, capacity improvements, reliability, mechanical inspections, process safety and general plant health & safety initiatives.

Often the mechanical projects engineer participates in various safety and process safety related activities such as Process Hazard Analysis, Management of Changes (MOCs), Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews and MI programs. They support BBS (Behavior Base Safety) process by performing observations, Loss Control policy, ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and other management systems.

This will be an onsite role in Bristol, PA

Responsibilities
  • Fulfill the role of project manager for plant capital and expense projects to meet the yearly budget commitments following the Global Project Methodology - 20%
    • This will include:
      • The supervision and support for project managers designee.
      • Fill the role of mechanical engineering.
      • Put together and present expense reports and budget forecast plan.
  • Identifies, evaluates and define improvement opportunities directed to increase the mechanical reliability of the manufacturing equipment and other equipment related with plant infrastructure/operations - 30%
  • Manage the mechanical integrity (MI) inspection program - 40%
    • This will include:
      • Prepare and implement the yearly MI inspection schedule.
      • Implement the remediations recommended on MI reports through capex or expense projects.
      • Create and update MI related documents based on Trinseo practices.
  • Support the safety programs and initiatives directed by HE&S department - 10%
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited program
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical industry environment required.
  • Prior engineeringexperience (e.g. improvement, maintenance, mechanical reliability, projects) required.
  • Self-motivated, capable decision-maker that can effectively influence others
  • Project management skills - Stage Gate Project Development process preferred
  • Knowledge of Process Safety – Mechanical Integrity, LPPs, Layers of Project, etc. is a plus
  • Mechanical engineering within chemical industry background preferred
  • Capital Project Management experience
  • Ability to learn and use SAP programs and reports.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability and skill to understand and troubleshoot unit operations and define improvement to meet safety, reliability and production goals.
  • Ability to work well with multiple levels (floor level, plant management and corporate) of the organization
