Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Roanoke Rapids, NC is seeking a Project Engineer to lead capital projects, support reliability improvements, and collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, contractors, and vendors to deliver safe, high-quality results.

The role requires managing projects from concept to completion in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, cost, and schedule. Experience in paper manufacturing is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, or related Engineering field from an accredited institution.
• Five+ years of related experience in engineering capital projects preferred; or minimum two years with strong technical aptitude and growth potential.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing work environments and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety in every activity and project within the mill.
• Manage capital and maintenance projects from planning through budgeting, scheduling, execution, and implementation.
• Oversee ongoing facility infrastructure maintenance programs.
• Support mill goals by serving on cross-functional teams and providing technical expertise.
• Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, contractors, and vendors to deliver results.
• Develop drawings, specifications, scopes of work, estimates, and execution plans.
