Job summary

Tenova Inc. in Coraopolis, PA is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with technical specs, schedule, cost, and quality.

The role interfaces closely with Project Manager, customers, vendors, and site teams, supporting planning, design, procurement, installation, commissioning and final acceptance, with travel up to 40%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years of engineering/design experience in heavy industrial equipment or similar.
  • Experience coordinating engineering activities within multidisciplinary projects.
  • Understanding of project management and project lifecycle phases.
  • Strong ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with engineering software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate engineering activities and contribute to overall project planning and scheduling.
  • Review contract documentation, technical specifications, and project requirements to ensure engineering deliverables comply with contractual scope.
  • Coordinate the flow of technical information among engineering disciplines.
  • Serve as a technical interface with customers, partners, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Support the Project Manager in identifying and resolving technical issues affecting scope, performance, schedule, or cost.
  • Coordinate development of engineering deliverables, drawing lists, design schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Perform and/or review engineering calculations for equipment sizing and maintain records.
  • Coordinate resolution of design issues with customers, partners, site teams, and specialists.
  • Prepare and coordinate technical specs, BOMs, and requisitions for Procurement.
  • Support technical evaluation, selection, and qualification of suppliers.
  • Review technical documentation to ensure project compliance.
  • Provide technical support to the Project Manager throughout execution.
  • Participate in site installation, commissioning, and acceptance activities when required.
  • Ensure activities comply with codes, ISO standards, and Tenova procedures.
  • Perform Mechanical Design Engineer responsibilities as needed to support project execution.

Your role in Tenova: Mechanical Project Engineer

Description: As a Project Engineer, you will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to ensure projects meet contractual requirements, technical specifications, schedule, quality, and cost objectives. You will work closely with the Project Manager, customers, engineering disciplines, vendors, and site teams, serving as a key technical interface throughout the project lifecycle.

You will combine hands-on engineering knowledge with project coordination responsibilities, supporting projects from initial planning and design through procurement, installation, commissioning, and final acceptance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate engineering activities and contribute to overall project planning and scheduling.

  • Review contract documentation, technical specifications, and project requirements to ensure engineering deliverables comply with contractual scope.

  • Coordinate the flow of technical information among engineering disciplines, including mechanical, process, piping, structural, electrical, and automation.

  • Serve as a technical interface with customers, partners, vendors, and internal engineering teams.

  • Support the Project Manager in identifying and resolving technical issues that may affect scope, performance, schedule, or project cost.

  • Coordinate the development of engineering deliverables, drawing lists, design schedules, and technical documentation.

  • Perform and/or review engineering calculations for equipment and component sizing and maintain supporting calculation records.

  • Coordinate the resolution of design issues with customers, partners, site teams, and engineering specialists.

  • Prepare and coordinate technical specifications, bills of materials, and requisitions for Procurement.

  • Support the technical evaluation, selection, and qualification of suppliers in coordination with the Project Manager and Procurement.

  • Review technical documentation and vendor information to ensure compliance with project requirements.

  • Provide technical support to the Project Manager throughout project execution.

  • Participate in site installation, commissioning, and acceptance activities when required.

  • Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable codes, ISO standards, and Tenova internal quality procedures.

  • Perform Mechanical Design Engineer responsibilities as required to support project execution.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • 3–5 years of engineering/design experience in heavy industrial equipment, process plants, or similar environments.

  • Experience coordinating engineering activities within multidisciplinary projects.

  • Understanding of project management principles and the different phases of the project lifecycle.

  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and design documentation.

  • Knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and industry practices.

  • Understanding of engineering interfaces and dependencies among mechanical, process, piping, structural, electrical, and other disciplines.

  • Ability to evaluate technical solutions considering project requirements, cost, schedule, and performance.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate activities across different stakeholders.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal teams, customers, vendors, and project partners.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering/design software.

Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventor or equivalent 2D/3D CAD tools.

  • Exposure to FEA/CFD or other engineering simulation techniques.

  • Experience in metal making, metal processing, or other heavy industrial environments.

  • Prior field, commissioning, or site-engineering experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward professional licensure.

  • Knowledge of an additional language.

Job Type: Full-time, in-office (hybrid flexibility may be available depending on project needs).

Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard business hours.

Travel: Up to 40% domestic/international travel for site activities, commissioning, acceptance, and project support.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Primarily office-based with prolonged computer use.

  • Site work may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs/ladders, and working near heavy industrial equipment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • PPE is provided and required in operational environments.
