Job summary

Osborn Engineering seeks a Mechanical Project Engineer in Cleveland with 4–7 years of experience to join our multi-discipline team. You will report to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering and contribute to complex HVAC projects in a consulting environment.

Ideal candidates bring strong Revit skills and knowledge of load calculation software, are familiar with codes, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver design deliverables from SD through construction.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience in mechanical design in consulting engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design and load calculation software such as Revit, IES VE, HAP, TRACE.
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and ability to work with contractors.
  • Experience in healthcare, sports, commercial, public sector, industrial, education or institutional projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • EI or PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with TRACE or HAP.
  • Develop sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas.
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases.
  • Edit specifications to reflect project requirements.
  • Develop air and water flows using fan and pump curves to select equipment.
  • Use the psychrometric chart for HVAC systems.
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for HVAC details.
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHUs, CHW and HW systems.
  • Prepare design deliverables for SD, DD, CD level documents.
  • Meet with contractors during bid phase to review design details.
  • Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovations.
  • Perform project construction administration including RFIs and submittals.
  • Attend meetings with clients and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Work planning and manage the design process within available hours.

Osborn Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer with 4– 7 years' experience for our Cleveland office location who will report to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering.

The ideal candidate would have strong working knowledge of Revit and Mechanical design in the Consulting Engineering environment.

Position Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP.

  • Develop air (constant and variable) and water flows using fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application.
  • Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system.
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for all HVAC details.
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems.
  • Prepare design deliverables for SD, DD, CD level documents.
  • Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details.

  • Perform project construction administration including response to RFI’s and accurate review of submittals.
  • Attend meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals as projects require.
  • Work planning and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan.
Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • 4 – 7 years of experience in Mechanical Design in Consulting Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design and load calculation software such as Revit, IES VE, HAP, TRACE.
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices.
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
  • Experience in designing Healthcare, Sports, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • EI or PE License Preferred.

Posted salary ranges reflect market-based averages for the role. Final compensation will be determined based on each candidate's experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the position.
