Job summary

Mesabi Metallics is seeking a Mechanical Planner for the Pellet Plant to oversee planning and optimization of maintenance to maximize efficiency, productivity and cost-effectiveness. You will collaborate with multiple teams to develop strategic plans and ensure targets are met while maintaining safety and environmental standards.

You will lead scheduling, resource allocation, and performance reporting to support a first-of-its-kind Minnesota project that marks a new era for local mining

Qualifications

• 5+ years of planning or maintenance experience in mining or mineral processing.
• Proficient with planning/scheduling software and pellet plant operations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive production and maintenance plans for the pellet plant.
• Create and maintain detailed schedules for operations and maintenance activities.
• Analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure smooth operations.
• Allocate resources to meet production targets and prepare regular performance reports.
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance in all activities.

Position Summary:

Mesabi Metallics is seeking a Mechanical Planner - Pellet Plant. This role will oversee the planning and optimization of pellet plant maintenance to maximize efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with various teams to develop strategic plans and ensure that production and maintenance targets are met while maintaining safety and environmental standards.

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Coordinator -Pellet Plant Maintenance, the Mechanical Planner - Pellet Plant will be responsible for the following:

• Develop and implement comprehensive production and maintenance plans for the pellet plant, ensuring alignment with overall operational goals and resource availability
• Create and maintain detailed schedules for pellet plant operations, including equipment usage, personnel assignments, and maintenance activities
• Analyze operational data to identify trends, performance metrics, and opportunities for improvement; make data-driven recommendations to optimize processes
• Work closely with engineering, maintenance, and operational teams to coordinate activities, resolve issues, and ensure smooth operations
• Manage and allocate resources effectively, including manpower, materials, and equipment, to meet production targets
• Prepare and present regular reports on pellet plant performance, production forecasts, and any deviations from plans to management and stakeholders
• Ensure all operations adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of safety within the team
• Lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and productivity through process improvements and best practices

Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in planning or maintenance within a mining or mineral processing environment
• Proficient in planning and scheduling software and familiar with pellet plant operations and processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
• Proven leadership skills and experience in managing cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams

Education:

Bachelor's degree in engineering OR technical degree with relevant work experience.

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires some work in front of a PC, desk, and phone and regular field work
• Some lifting and strength required when working in the plant

Salary

$110,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
