Northern Manufacturing is seeking an engineering professional to help translate customer prints into manufacturable, efficient, and profitable production plans. This role focuses on determining how parts can be manufactured with quality and cost control across the shop floor.
You will collaborate between customer drawings, CAD models, and manufacturing operations, identifying issues early and guiding projects to timely, accurate completion.
Northern Manufacturing is a 160-person custom metal fabricator in Oak Harbor, Ohio, specializing in stainless steel and complex fabricated products. Since 1951, we've built custom equipment, tanks, weldments, machined assemblies, and complex fabrications for customers who need solutions that can't simply be bought off the shelf.
Our 160,000-square-foot facility includes flat and tube fiber laser cutting, press brake forming, manual and robotic welding, machining, finishing, and assembly. We are ISO 9001:2015 certified and maintain qualified welding procedures with an on-staff Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
Every job is different. If you want to design the same bracket 400 times, this probably isn't the job for you. If you like opening a print package for something you've never seen before and figuring out how we're going to build it, you'll fit right in.
This is a manufacturing-focused engineering role not a conventional product design position. Our customers' engineers typically design the equipment; your job is to help determine how Northern can manufacture it accurately, efficiently, and profitably.
You’ll work between customer drawings, CAD models, and the shop floor—identifying manufacturability issues, developing practical solutions, and helping Production turn designs into finished products.
Our engineers hold two distinct roles: determining the optimal way to manufacture a customer's prints and participating in factory process and quality improvements.
As a custom manufacturer, Northern Manufacturing is challenged with producing an amazingly wide variety of products efficiently and cost effectively. The engineer must find creative and inventive ways of using factory machine tools to produce these products. The engineer must then break down the assembly into parts for fabrication and must communicate this information clearly to the production team.
The engineer will also lead or participate in projects and process improvements. Example projects include managing the installation and deployment of new equipment, developing optimal process parameters for machinery, or using software to facilitate automation of processes or repetitive tasks. The engineer will often become an expert on a specific process and will be responsible for keeping up to date with the latest technological developments in this arena.
This position does not directly supervise staff but may assist in the training of new or lesser skilled Engineers.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment screening, which may include a background check and drug screening.
Northern Manufacturing is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
We appreciate your interest in joining the Northern Manufacturing team!
