Job summary
Baker Hughes in Houston seeks a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer to support mechanical assembly and test operations. You will drive continuous improvement, ensure quality, and uphold safety standards across production environments.
You will partner with Design, Quality, Supply Chain, and Suppliers to optimize processes, apply DFx, and implement robust manufacturing methods for both existing products and NPI programs.

Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support to manufacturing operations across machining, assembly, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting.
- Lead root cause investigations for non-conforming materials and implement corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement to reduce costs, improve quality, and cut lead times.
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for existing and new products (NPI).
- Design manufacturing tooling, fixtures, and process controls for safety and productivity.
- Collaborate with Design for Manufacturing/Assembly to smoothly transfer products to production.
- Work with suppliers to improve capability, quality, and delivery.
- Create and maintain work instructions, routings, and SOPs.
- Apply Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, Shainin for waste reduction and efficiency.
- Utilize data analysis to monitor process capability and drive improvements.
- Ensure adherence to quality, health, safety, and environmental standards.

Are you passionate about solving technical challenges and improving manufacturing performance? We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to support our mechanical assembly and test operations, driving continuous improvement, quality, and operational excellence across the production environment.
The key responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineer - Mechanical may include the following as well as other items required to execute the role.
- Providing hands-on support to manufacturing operations, including machining, assembly, fabrication, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of mechanical products and processes.
- Investigating and dispositioning non-conforming materials and products, leading root cause investigations and implementing effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, increase throughput, and reduce lead times.
- Developing, qualifying, and optimizing manufacturing processes for both existing products and New Product Introductions (NPI), ensuring robust and repeatable production methods.
- Designing and implementing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and process controls to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
- Collaborating with Designing Engineering teams to apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles, ensuring smooth transition of products from design into production.
- Partnering with suppliers to improve manufacturing capability, quality performance, and delivery reliability, supporting supplier qualification and development activities.
- Creating and maintaining manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, assembly procedures, process specifications, manufacturing routings, and standard operating procedures.
- Applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, Shainin, and other continuous improvement methodologies to eliminate waste and improve operational efficiency.
- Utilizing data analysis and statistical techniques to identify trends, monitor process capability, solve manufacturing issues, and drive process improvements.
- Ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements, promoting a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Collaborating in cross-functional projects involving Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and Suppliers to achieve business objectives and customer requirements.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, production engineering, or continuous improvement role.
- Have demonstrated understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes including machining, assembly, testing, fabrication, and inspection.
- Have experience interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Have knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and product lifecycle principles.
- Show proficiency in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Show working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, Shainin, or equivalent continuous improvement methodologies.
- Have understanding of quality management systems and manufacturing quality standards.
- Have strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Supplier organizations.
- Show proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Show demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Experience supporting mechanical product manufacturing from prototype through full production.
- Proven track record of implementing process improvements that improve quality, reduce lead times, increase productivity, or reduce costs.
- Experience investigating manufacturing and supplier quality issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Experience developing and implementing assembly fixtures, tooling, manufacturing aids, and process controls.
- Experience working with suppliers to qualify manufacturing processes and improve supplier performance.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and transitioning products from design into manufacturing.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional improvement projects and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) certification or equivalent engineering accreditation.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or similar design tools.
- Experience utilizing additive manufacturing technologies, including 3D printing.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or equivalent manufacturing systems.
- Experience working within the oil and gas, energy, aerospace, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
