Job summary

LANXESS is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician in Kalama, WA to safely execute mechanical maintenance in an industrial manufacturing environment. You'll diagnose, install, and maintain machinery, perform SAP/CMMS transactions, and read technical drawings.

Leveling ranges from Technician I to III based on competencies and experience. Required: maintenance certificate or equivalent, OEM/ISO 9001 experience preferred, and strong problem-solving with the CMMS/SAP tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: maintenance certificate or equivalent; industrial maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of rotating and fixed mechanical systems, maintenance methods, drawings, and OSHA requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with a CMMS; SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • PSM chemical facility and ISO 9001 experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical maintenance work including pipefitting, equipment installation/removal, pump packing/seal replacement, and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotating and fixed mechanical equipment and process machinery.
  • Complete SAP/CMMS transactions: work orders, maintenance notifications, and equipment records.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and safety procedures; work safely and on schedule.
  • Perform safety assessments including confined space entry and work at heights.

Candidates will be considered for Mechanical Maintenance Technician I, II, or III based on their skills, demonstrated competencies, education, certifications, and relevant experience.

Candidates will be considered for Mechanical Maintenance Technician I, II, or III based on their skills, demonstrated competencies, education, certifications, and relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute assigned mechanical maintenance work, including pipefitting, equipment installation/removal, pump packing and seal replacement, equipment rebuilds, and preventative/predictive maintenance.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain rotating and fixed mechanical equipment and process machinery.
  • Complete required SAP/CMMS transactions, including work order confirmations, maintenance notifications, and equipment records.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, equipment drawings, and safety procedures while completing work safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Perform required safety assessments and life-critical work, including line/equipment opening, confined space entry, and work at heights.
Technical Competencies

Demonstrated proficiency in the following areas, as applicable equipment installation/alignment, flanged joint closure, lubrication, scaffolding, packing and mechanical seals, precision measurement, equipment rebuilds, fabrication, and crane operations/rigging. Competency may be demonstrated through certification, company-approved testing, or verified experience.

Experience / Skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • Relevant maintenance certificate or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of rotating and fixed mechanical systems, maintenance methods, technical drawings, and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with a maintenance CMMS; SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • PSM chemical facility and ISO 9001 experience preferred.
Mechanical Maintenance Technician Leveling
  • Technician I At least 3 technical competencies and 3–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Technician II At least 7 technical competencies and 5–6 years of relevant experience.
  • Technician III Demonstrated proficiency in all 11 technical competencies and 7+ years of relevant experience.

The assigned level will be based on the candidate's overall qualifications, demonstrated competencies, and relevant experience.
