Overview

The Lordstown Energy Center is a natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant. It features two Siemens SGT6-8000H combustion turbines and advanced air-cooled generators. The facility includes NEM triple-pressure reheat heat recovery steam generators and a Siemens SST6-5000 condensing turbine with a hydrogen-cooled generator, designed to optimize efficiency while supporting the regional power grid. Additional infrastructure, such as a 14-cell cooling tower and emissions control systems, underscores its commitment to reliable energy generation and environmental stewardship.

Opportunity Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician at the Lordstown Energy Center ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of combined-cycle equipment through preventive, routine, and predictive maintenance programs. They troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul critical mechanical systems and balance-of-plant equipment, support planned outages and system upgrades, and coordinate contractor activities while maintaining safety and quality standards. Collaborating with team members, they provide training, maintain documentation and spare parts, and contribute to overall plant reliability and performance.

Your scope of responsibility
  • Operate and maintain combined-cycle power-generating equipment with minimal guidance, ensuring compliance with plant procedures, technical manuals, and safe work practices.
  • Read and interpret meters, gauges, blueprints, and instrumentation to monitor operational conditions, including temperature, vibration, pressure, flow, and water chemistry, and collect trending data to support reliability and operational decisions.
  • Participate in preventive, routine, and predictive maintenance programs, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling mechanical systems and balance-of-plant equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, turbines, and heat exchangers. Perform failure analysis and corrective actions as needed.
  • Support planned outages and projects by inspecting equipment, performing assigned tasks safely and efficiently, developing or assisting with work packages, and coordinating contractor activities.
  • Set up and operate machine shop tools, rigging, and lifting equipment to ensure proper alignment, balance, and safe handling of heavy machinery and materials.
  • Install piping, conduit, and mechanical components to support system upgrades and modifications.
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and revising maintenance procedures, and maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, and documentation of problems, repairs, and downtime.
  • Collaborate with team members to execute maintenance tasks, share technical knowledge, and provide training for new hires or refresher items as required.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory, housekeeping, and plant cleanliness, and ensure company tools are kept in safe and proper condition.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including working scheduled shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends as required, while promoting safety, environmental compliance, and the company’s values and culture.

Working Relationships: The Mechanical Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and receives general direction from other plant management. This role involves interfacing with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure necessary support and coordination.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions. Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Mechanical Maintenance Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or on-call status may also be required.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate of $48.13 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.

Core Qualifications And Skills

We are looking for a skilled Technician with experience in power generation operations and maintenance, coupled with a proven ability to contribute effectively to team success and consistently meet performance standards.

  • Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in power-generating facility maintenance, preferably as a power plant mechanic, millwright, or in a similar role.
  • Thorough understanding of power plant operations, including preventive and predictive maintenance, with the ability to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul mechanical systems and balance-of-plant equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, and other critical components.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and regulatory compliance, ensuring quality and operational standards during maintenance, repairs, and outages.
  • Proficient in assembling, disassembling, adjusting, and aligning electrical and mechanical equipment, and skilled with precision measuring, diagnostic, and fabrication tools, including drill presses, milling machines, welding equipment, and rigging tools.
  • Able to read and interpret meters, gauges, and instrumentation to monitor temperature, vibration, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry, while collecting and analyzing trending data to support reliability and operational decisions.
  • Team-oriented, with experience collaborating on maintenance tasks, sharing technical insights, and supervising contractors or technicians to maintain safety and quality standards.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for effective coordination with team members and management, and accurate reporting of maintenance activities.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
