Job summary

Fluidstack in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical engineering for data center and heavy industrial programs. You will own cooling plants, liquid loops, and airside systems from concept to energized operation.

You bring design-level liquid cooling expertise, hydraulics, controls interfaces, redundancy, and experience guiding design firms under schedule pressure. PE license is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Led mechanical engineering for data center or heavy industrial programs.
  • Knowledge of liquid cooling at the design level: hydraulics, controls interface, redundancy.
  • Made field engineering calls under schedule pressure that held up.
  • Managed design firms with technical authority, not just contract terms.
  • Bonus: PE license, direct-to-chip cooling, modular skid packages, hydraulic and CFD modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Own mechanical engineering across the portfolio: cooling plants, liquid loops, and airside from reference design to energized.
  • Set the mechanical reference design for direct-to-chip liquid cooling and evolve it with each build's lessons.

Job description

About Fluidstack

We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built – but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it. We are singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them – with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization‑scale infrastructure for AI.

How We Operate
  • Extreme ownership. Full autonomy. Own things end to end often taking on scope outside your core role without being asked to get things done.
  • Velocity. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.
  • First principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.
  • Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
The Capacity Delivery Team
Examples of key problems the team is working on
  • Engineer gigawatts from drawing to energized, in months not years. Capacity Delivery owns technical execution across every build: the drawings, the field questions, and the engineering calls that keep multiple concurrent gigawatt sites moving.
  • Engineer data centers that go up in months, not years. At that pace rework is not an option: problems get caught on paper or they cost a data hall.
  • Design it once, build it a hundred times. Every site's lessons roll into the reference design on the way to 10s to 100s of GWs, so each build starts ahead of the last.
Role Scope
  • Own mechanical engineering across the portfolio: cooling plants, liquid loops, and airside from reference design to energized.
  • Set the mechanical reference design for direct‑to‑chip liquid cooling and evolve it with each build's lessons.
  • Make the field mechanical calls, routing conflicts, equipment substitutions, sequence changes, at build speed.
  • Review consultant packages with owner‑of‑record rigor before they hit the field.
What We're Looking For
  • The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don't fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
  • You've led mechanical engineering for data center or heavy industrial programs.
  • You know liquid cooling at the design level: hydraulics, controls interface, redundancy.
  • You've made field engineering calls under schedule pressure that held up.
  • You manage design firms with technical authority, not just contract terms.
  • Bonus: PE license. Direct‑to‑chip cooling. Modular skid packages. Hydraulic and CFD modeling.
Compensation Range

$250K - $292K

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
