Job summary

Teledyne Brown Engineering is seeking a Quality Inspector for Huntsville, AL. You will inspect, test, and measure materials and products to ensure they meet specifications, and prepare data for QA review.

Candidates should have a high school diploma with vocational training, and experience with CMM programming using Zeiss Calypso, Hexagon PCDMIS, or OpenDMIS is highly preferred. U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain security clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus vocational or technical training; 2+ years related experience preferred.
  • Experience with CMM programming/operation with Zeiss Calypso, Hexagon PCDMIS, or Wenzel OpenDMIS is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications; write routine reports.
  • US citizenship with ability to obtain/maintain government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, or measure materials/products to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Record inspection data and prepare first article or rejection reports.
  • Notify supervisors of production problems and assist in corrective actions.
  • Prepare data and reports for QA review and compliance with ISO/AS9100 standards.
  • Follow procedures for labeling, packing, and disposition of nonconforming items.
  • Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement efforts.

Job Description Job Summary Under general supervision, performs product inspection and/or audits of quality assurance programs. Performs sampling and testing of incoming components and raw materials and packaging line and manufacturing inspections. Inspects and tests product manufactured or processed by suppliers to ensure conformance to requirements and specifications. Identifies material and processes as conforming or nonconforming. Writes simple reports of findings for review. Enters required data into system. Follows established procedures on routine work, minimal guidance on established procedures. Will receive instruction on new assignments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Analyze and interpret drawings, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.

  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications which include mechanical, electrical and/or chemical inspections.
  • Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems.
  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products, and recommend necessary corrective actions.
  • Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.
  • Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
  • Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards.
  • Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
  • Prepare first article reports and enter required data into computer
  • Document inspection findings and complete rejection reports.
  • Ensure raw materials, in-process and finished products meet company standards.
  • May apply approval or rejection labels to bulk raw materials once analytical data is evaluated. * May assess draft and final label copy, utilizing knowledge of labeling regulations
  • Minimize down time by reducing production rework and recalls.
  • Follow established process/procedures for discarding or rejecting products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.

Experience with the following is highly preferred: * CMM programming/operation experience with Zeiss Calypso, Hexagon PCDMIS, or Wenzel OpenDMIS softwares.
  • Laser Tracker/Laser Scanner programming/operation with PCDMIS software. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effective with other employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word software. Position may require one or more of the following (Site/CBU Specific): Other Essential Duties * Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required. Other Skills and Abilities * Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP...) Other Qualifications * US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
