Job summary

CannonDesign in Buffalo, NY invites applications for an engineer to join our multi‑disciplinary team. You will work under the direction of a licensed engineer on HVAC, piping, and fire protection projects for educational, healthcare, corporate, and science settings.

You will develop Revit/BIM models, perform load calculations, and prepare construction documents while coordinating with teams across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (ABET preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • EIT/FE in the United States preferred.
  • LEED accreditation preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience with Revit, Trane Trace or Trane 3D Plus.

  • Design uncomplicated piping and equipment for HVAC under supervision; assist with plumbing and fire protection.
  • Prepare building load calculations using modeling software under supervisory direction.
  • Develop Revit/BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC systems.
  • Edit specifications for existing and new projects.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for contract compliance.
  • Research assigned topics and respond to emergent issues.
  • Write draft reports for review by a professional engineer.
  • Gather information for RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Perform site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Coordinate specific activities on project elements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About the Role

You will be a member of our multi‑disciplinary team and will work under the direction of a licensed engineer. Projects may include new construction and renovation in educational, healthcare, corporate commercial and science and technology settings.

Responsibilities
  • Under supervision of a professional engineer perform designs of uncomplicated piping and equipment selection for HVAC systems. Assist with plumbing and fire protection designs as necessary.
  • Prepare building load calculations using modeling software under supervisory direction.
  • Prepare energy models with appropriate software and supervisory oversight.
  • Develop Revit/BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches and detail drawings. Perform Revit/BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as needed.
  • Assist with editing specifications for existing and new projects.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings for compliance with contract documents.
  • Research assigned topics and respond to emergent issues.
  • Write draft reports for review by a professional engineer.
  • Gather information for RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Perform job‑site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, often requiring a physical walk‑through.
  • Coordinate specific activities on particular elements of a project.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range for the Buffalo, NY office: $67,014 – $74,460 annually. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
