Job summary

ASTEMO AMERICAS, INC. in Farmington Hills, MI, seeks a senior design engineer to lead a team responsible for enclosures housing automotive electronics, focusing on liquid cooling development.

You will plan advanced development activities for ADAS and other modules, benchmark convection and liquid‑cooled architectures, and ensure timely delivery of all project milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics; MS preferred.
  • 7+ years experience as a design engineer, automotive industry a plus.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and 2D drafting; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Familiar with DFMEA, PPAP, and design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage activities for advanced development of ADAS and other automotive control modules.

  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) principles.

Job Summary

Lead member of a design team responsible for the design and implementation of enclosures that house electronics for various automotive electronic devices, with a focus on liquid cooling development.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage activities for advanced development of ADAS and other automotive control modules.
  • Benchmarking and optimization of free/forced convection and liquid‑cooled architectures.
  • Ensure program goals and objectives are accomplished within established time frames.
  • Track all project deliverables and ensure on‑time and accurate completion.
  • Directly manage junior engineers and oversee their workstreams to achieve team goals.
  • Maintain project timing and track deliverables to completion.
  • Set and manage project budgets.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) principles.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Applied physics mindset with engineering driven by governing equations.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (solid modeling/assembly) and 2D drafting; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Understanding of FEA and CFD and ability to support/approve analysis.
  • Familiarity with standard automotive procedures such as DFMEA, PPAP, and design reviews.
  • Demonstrated mastery of engineering problem‑solving methodology.
  • Experience leading multiple automotive projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Electrical knowledge and familiarity with manufacturing techniques (stamping, high‑pressure die cast, injection molding, surface/heat treatments).
  • Foreign language skills are a plus.
  • Proficiency with PC application software, including MS Office tools.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics (MS preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience as a design engineer (experience in the automotive industry is a plus).
Working Conditions

Physical demands: sit or stand for long periods; lift or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Travel: domestic and international travel may be required; occasional travel to multiple global locations to support project development.
