Job summary

Corning is seeking an engineer to provide production and facility equipment support, leading projects to improve efficiency and throughput. The role involves collaboration with union trades, operators, safety personnel, and multiple engineering disciplines to troubleshoot and optimize equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, mechatronics, industrial, robotics, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience across diverse applications.
  • Experience supporting or leading technical projects.
  • Ability to review and interpret data to draw actionable conclusions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Partner with teams on new product/process launches and equipment changes.

The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Purpose of Position

Provide engineering support for all plant production and facility equipment to support daily operations while leading projects that improve efficiency, reduce costs, enhance quality, or increase throughput.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate daily with cross-functional teams including union trades, operators, safety personnel, and various engineering disciplines to support production needs through troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and optimization driving root cause analysis and repair of equipment.
  • Manage and support critical engineering and development projects through design, installation, testing, and optimization phases.
  • Project Management through all phases including project initiation, scope development, funding, and execution of small to medium scaled projects ($20k - $2M) to enable production improvements required by the business.
  • Draft and review technical documentation, equipment layouts, SOPs, and mechanical schematics.
  • Collaborate with division and company resources in technology and engineering to enhance project effectiveness.
  • Partner with teams on new product and process launches, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, mechatronics, industrial, robotics, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with the ability to apply hands‑on experience across a wide range of applications.
  • Experience supporting or leading technical projects.
  • Skilled in reviewing, analyzing, interpreting, and drawing actionable conclusions from data.
  • Results‑driven with a high level of commitment to achieving goals.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Education and Experience:
  • Proficient in AutoCad, Solidworks, or similar CAD software
  • Experience with MS Office, Project & SharePoint
  • Structured development and problem‑solving skills (e.g. Innovation, KT, DMAIC).

Hours: Typically, 7 AM – 4 PM Monday – Friday.

Travel: Some travel should be expected, depending on project assignments. Typical travel requirement is less than 10% but can vary.

The range for this position is $81,104.00 - $111,518.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
