Stantec's Buildings team in Berkley, Michigan seeks a Mechanical Engineering Team Leader to guide a group of mechanical engineers, EITs and designers. You will collaborate with architects, electrical and structural engineers and project managers in a multi-discipline office, and with counterparts across the North Central region.

The role emphasizes client relationship development, pursuit of projects, technical excellence, mentoring staff, and growing the Buildings practice in the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Licensure is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of buildings engineering experience is required, preferably in projects within the educational and/or commercial sector.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for workload and supporting revenue generation for the mechanical group in Berkley.
  • Initiate and meet with clients and other industry professionals to garner new work and maintain relationships.
  • Direct and guide supervision over mechanical professionals and technical staff.
  • Lead technical projects and provide the team with vision and concepts for technical solutions.
  • Act as a Mechanical Engineer of Record for building of all types in our sectors of practice.
  • Monitor staff utilization and availability, forecast project needs, review of work in progress and estimate to complete costs.
  • Collaborate with Leadership, Project Managers and Technical Leaders to address personnel or project issues as they arise.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and other offices for project delivery and project pursuits.
  • Promote a healthy environment and safety culture in the team and across the organization.
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of new staff including identifying candidates, reviewing résumés and participating in interviews.
  • Coaching and mentorship to the engineering staff.

As the Mechanical Engineering Team Leader with our Berkley, Michigan office, you will lead a team of mechanical engineers, EITs, and mechanical designers. You will engage with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, interior designers, and project managers in our multi-discipline office, as well as with counterparts across the North Central region.

Your Key Responsibilities
As Mechanical Engineering Team Leader:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer:
  • Responsible for multiple projects of various complexity/size.
  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and designs all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project and assuring work is reviewed for overall technical accuracy.
  • Utilizes advanced techniques for the analysis of specialized building mechanical elements.
  • Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of building’s mechanical systems and provides markups for junior engineers/ designers.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Assists with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
  • Attends project site meetings for information gathering and field observations.
  • Participates in constructability review.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical team.

  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Licensure is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of buildings engineering experience is required, preferably in projects within the educational and/or commercial sector.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
