Qualifications

• Professional Engineer license or equivalent.
• Minimum 10+ years’ experience in HVAC design.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders.
• Manage financial budget for the section and allocate resources accordingly.
• Lead and contribute to the production of proposals.
• Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff.
• Oversee the work of technical staff to ensure quality and completeness.
• Establish resource staffing needs for the section.
• Interview and hire staff for the section.
• Monitor project progress and staff utilization to optimize utilization and meet deadlines.
• Resolve project conflicts with clients, contractors, and other design disciplines.
• Enforce quality standards and contribute to tools/process improvements.
• Lead and manage team performance and growth.

Clark Nexsen, a JMT Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Section Head who will be responsible for technical quality control , financial success, and managing staff for the section at the local level.

Essential functions and responsibilities

• Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders
• Manage financial budget for the section and allocate resources accordingly
• Lead and contribute to the production of proposals
• Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff
• Oversee the work of technical staff to ensure quality and completeness
• Establish resources staffing needs for the section
• Interview and hire staff for the section
• Actively monitor project progress and staff utilization and allocate resources to projects to optimize utilization and meet all deliverable deadlines
• Proactively resolve project conflicts with clients, contractors, and other design disciplines
• Provide input to the Practice Area Leader for improvement of tools and processe s
• Aid the Pr actice Area Leader in the enforcement of quality standards
• Perform performance reviews for staff based on input from project managers on assigned teams
• Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of the team .
• Establish and grow market presence in area through marketing and business development

Required Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excell, Word, Teams, Outlook, Power Point)
• Proficient in Revit
• Proficient in specialized HVAC software (Trace 700, IES, Static Pressure and Duct Sizing tools, Pump Head and Pipe Sizing Tools, etc.)

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program
• Professional Engineer License or equivalent
• Minimum 10+ years’ experience in HVAC design

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with location, regional, and national clients within some combination of Federal, Aviation, Rail/Transit, Education, Industrial, and State and Local Governments and Agencies
• Supervisory experience
• Project management and business development experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Visits to active construction sites are occasionally required that necessitate safety training and awareness, the use of PPE, climbing ladders , walking through areas with heavy machinery activity and/or overhead work.
