Job summary

AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the design and development of mechanical systems for small modular reactor and nuclear fuel facilities. This remote role is based out of Oak Ridge, TN, requiring strong leadership and a background in nuclear design standards.

The candidate will manage a team of engineers, drive staffing and performance, and interface with senior management to deliver complex nuclear projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years post-baccalaureate experience.
• Minimum of five years of experience managing individuals or teams.
• Strong communication in a multi-tiered environment.
• Knowledge of key design standards and licensing for commercial nuclear facilities.
• NSSS OEM experience.

Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager - Remote. This remote position is based out of our Oak Ridge, TN office.

Your role

AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear is the subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis focused on serving government and commercial clients within the Nuclear sector in the United States.

We are focused on being recognized as a premier nuclear solutions company in the United States, delivering engineering, operations, and project management services.

Serves both legacy and new build nuclear clients who are designing, building, upgrading, operating and maintaining nuclear power generation and fuel cycle assets.

We are a growing business, building on the foundation of our US government fuel cycle business, our international position as an Original Equipment Manufactor (OEM) and nuclear reactor technology provider, and our world-wide nuclear new build and legacy nuclear fleet maintenance experience.

• Manages the design and development of mechanical systems for small modular reactor and nuclear fuel cycle facility projects.
• Leads and supervises a team of mechanical engineers designing systems, structures and components for major small modular reactor, fuel fabrication, and fuel recycling facilities.
• Manages staff performance.
• Receives general administrative direction.
• Executes independent decisions and resolves important questions concerning the design and development of the small modular reactor.
• Interfaces with senior technical managers, program managers, and all levels of management throughout the firm.
• Identifies staffing needs, deficiencies and opportunities for recruitment of required staff. Identifies, screens, recruits and orients qualified candidates to fill key vacancies.
• Communicates complex ideas, anticipates potential objections and persuades others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

About you

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering discipline.
• Minimum of fifteen years post-baccalaureate experience.
• Minimum of five years of experience managing individuals or teams.
• Strong communication skills in a challenging, multi-tiered environment.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to foster and achieve goal alignment among participants with differing interests.
• Knowledge of key design standards and licensing requirements for commercial nuclear facilities required.
• Professional Engineering (PE) License desired, with ability to be licensed in multiple jurisdictions.
• Senior design professional on Commercial nuclear reactor projects.
• Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $119,000 - $199,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
