Amazon is developing robotic end of arm tooling (EOAT) for distribution and fulfillment centers — work that has no existing commercial solution. We are looking for a hardware development manager to lead the mechanical engineering team responsible for designing these systems. In this role, you will own the mechanical design of EOAT used across a variety of tasks, guiding your team through complex challenges in mechanisms, actuation, motor design, kinematics, and structural analysis. You will set technical direction, grow your team, and collaborate closely with electrical, software, sensor, safety, manufacturing, and deployment partners to bring new tooling from concept to production. This is a chance to build something that does not yet exist and shape how automation works inside Amazon's operations network.
You start your morning reviewing mechanical design progress with your engineers, working through actuation trade‑offs on an active EOAT program. Mid‑morning you join a cross‑functional design review with electrical and sensor partners, asking probing questions to tighten the integration approach. After lunch you hold one‑on‑ones with direct reports, discussing career development and providing feedback on recent simulation results. Later you draft a narrative for leadership outlining the team's next‑quarter priorities, grounding your recommendations in test data and deployment feedback.
Our mechanical engineering team designs the EOAT that will automate tasks across Amazon's distribution and fulfillment centers. We are tackling problems where no commercial solution exists, which means the work requires creative thinking and deep technical expertise in areas like mechanisms, actuation, and structural design. The team is growing — currently six mechanical engineers with plans to expand — and partners closely with electrical, software, sensor, safety, manufacturing, and deployment groups. If you want to lead a team that is building something genuinely new, this is the place to do it.
