Job summary

Arn Autonomy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to join the team building GRID, our autonomous rebar-tying mobile robot. You will work on real hardware, spanning the tying mechanism, chassis, and powertrain, with mentorship from senior engineers.

This in-person internship in the San Francisco Bay Area offers hands-on design, prototyping, and system-level testing alongside software, electrical, and manufacturing teams, with opportunities to contribute to live projects on job sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or graduate degree in mechanical related field and ability to commit full-time in person.
• Strong fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, and machine design.
• Proficiency in at least one CAD package with GD&T and tolerancing knowledge.
• Hands-on experience building or testing mechanical hardware.
• Ability to analyze problems and work with teammates for solutions.
• Self-starter with demonstrated autonomous learning and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanisms, gantry, chassis, and structural components for a mobile robot outdoors.
• Create complete drawings with GD&T, BOMs, materials, and finishes.
• Integrate motors, sensors, cabling, and power transmission into assemblies.
• Prototype, test setups, and design parts for 3D printing and CNC machining.
• Perform hand calculations and basic FEA to validate designs.
• Plan tests, troubleshoot subsystems, and support manufacturing readiness.
• Document designs and test results for traceability and reviews.
• Learn from senior engineers and contribute to multiple robotic tasks.
