Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) in Pullman, WA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to support our engineering team. You will work part-time during the school year and full-time in the summer, gaining hands-on experience with real-world projects and the chance to learn from world-class engineers.

You will assist with test planning and execution, analyze tolerances and ROI, design plastics and metal parts, update SolidWorks models, and document your work.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with 1–2 years completed.
• Ability to conduct defined testing procedures.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Experience with MS Office or equivalent.
• SolidWorks experience (1 year) or equivalent CAD.
• Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Team player with ability to learn new skills.
• Background check and negative drug test required.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to mechanical engineering staff as needed.

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer in Pullman, WA . As a Mechanical Engineer Intern, a typical day might include the following:

• Provide support to mechanical engineering staff as needed:
• Functional/qualification test plans, testing, and test reports
• Tolerance, return on investment (ROI), thermal, and structural analysis
• Design of plastic, machined, sheet metal, and die cast parts
• Update SolidWorks models and drawings.
• Data entry of technical information into company databases (MS Access, Lotus Notes, SolidWorks).
• Follow mechanical development and quality assurance procedures.

This job might be for you if you:

• Are pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering with one to two years engineering education completed.
• Can conduct defined testing procedures.
• Have strong problem-solving skills.
• Have working knowledge of MS Office Applications or equivalent.
• Have one year SolidWorks Experience (or equivalent CAD software).
• Have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
• Can learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
• Can work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Have background check results satisfactory to SEL.
• Have negative drug test result(s).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience filing engineering documentation
• Finite element analysis experience a plus
