Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support maintenance and engineering teams in Warren, OH. The internship offers exposure to predictive and preventive maintenance, equipment upgrades, and project participation under supervision.

The role emphasizes learning through real-world projects, with opportunities to work on design, analysis, and cost-control of maintenance efforts. Applicants must be enrolled in a BS program and on track to complete sophomore year by 2027.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical degree.
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, redesign, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment.
  • Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action.
  • Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Analyze current operating performance and SOPs and suggest improvements.
  • Support various other projects as needed to assist the business.

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern's education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below. Under the guidance of appropriate supervisory personnel, a mechanical engineering intern will utilize engineering and technology principles to assist in the performance of engineering duties.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement
  • Various other projects as needed to support the business
Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other related technical degree
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
