Cleveland-Cliffs invites motivated students to join as Mechanical Engineering Interns in Coatesville, PA. Under supervision, you will assist in maintenance and engineering duties, working on real-world projects that support site operations and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a BS program in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Completion of at least sophomore year by Summer 2027.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.

Responsibilities

• Recommend, perform, and support predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment.
• Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, and repair machinery and equipment.
• Resolve malfunctions, including those requiring shutdowns or breakdown actions.
• Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects.
• Read blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and reports; analyze operating performance and SOPs for improvements.
• Contribute to various other projects to support the business.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below. Under the guidance of appropriate supervisory personnel, a mechanical engineering intern will utilize engineering and technology principles to assist in the performance of engineering duties.

Summary of Responsibilities

• Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance of equipment
• Research, design, evaluate, install, modernize, re-design, operate, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment
• Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action
• Participate in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
• Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement
• Various other projects as needed to support the business

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or other related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
