Job summary

RTX in Portsmouth, RI is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer I to design, develop, and document components for defense systems and support integration with suppliers. The role requires collaboration across disciplines to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

Travel may be required, CONUS primarily with optional international assignments. A STEM degree and CAD/modeling experience are essential, with CREO and PDM familiarity preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent STEM field.
• Experience with CAD required.
• Hands-on modeling software experience preferred.

Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, theUndersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical and electrical design, development, and integration of a diverse set of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers.

What You Will Do

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
• Support the factory and suppliers with product integration
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
• Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation
• Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
• Occasional CONUS travel to customer sites or suppliers is generally required. International and longer duration travel assignments are available but optional

Qualifications You Must Have

• Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or (STEM) major obtained by start date.
• Experience with CAD
• Experience in modeling software

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging.
• Experience in design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience on DoD programs.
• Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.
• Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience.

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
