Job summary

Davies Engineering Group is seeking a mechanical engineering co-op to work alongside seasoned engineers on real projects for industrial clients. The role involves assisting with design tasks, concept development, site visits, and 3D modeling to support a range of HVAC and mechanical systems.

The internship emphasizes learning through hands-on tasks, exposure to the design process, and collaboration within project teams, with supervision from the Mechanical Department Head.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing BS in mechanical engineering (two years completed).
• Coursework in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit and SolidWorks.
• Strong communication, collaboration and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and research design issues with available resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist project engineers with design tasks.
• Assist in concept development, design and analysis for projects.
• Visit project sites to determine conditions and perform field engineering services.
• Create 3D models of equipment or facilities using a 3D scanner.
• Perform heating, cooling and ventilation load calculations.
• Make preliminary equipment selections using manufacturers' information.
• Prepare designs and details using 2D and 3D AutoCAD including piping and HVAC design, layout and sizing tasks.
• Review technical specifications.
• Prepare preliminary construction cost estimates.
• Research and learn mechanical/electrical code issues and construction methods.
• Exposure to construction administration.
• Attend project meetings.

Qualifications

• Completed first two years toward BS mechanical engineering degree
• Completed coursework in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
• Strong computer skills including experience with AutoCAD/Revit/Solidworks
• Excellent critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and research design issues with available resources
• Curiosity to learn and grow

Responsibilities

Co-ops will work with project engineers or designers as part of project specific teams. Team size varies depending on project size and complexity. Co-ops will be exposed to many aspects of the design process including:

• Assist project engineers with specific design tasks
• Assist in concept development, design and analysis for projects
