Standard Job Description

The Orion Program is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team of Mechanical Engineers and Analysts responsible for the design, analysis, verification, and test of Orion flight hardware. In this role, the selected candidate focus on delivering high-quality technical products and cost and schedule performance in support of upcoming Artemis missions. The candidate will also be responsible for staff development, collaborating with Lockheed senior management, and coordinating with customer representatives.

Manages the research, planning, design and development of mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Directs application of research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with NASA requirements for human rated spacecraft
  • Proven performance in a mechanical engineering field such as Structures Design, Mechanisms Design, Stress Analysis, or equivalent
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
Desired Skills
  • Prior experience as a technical lead, CPE, or manager
  • Demonstrated full section Leadership competencies, including: communicating with positive impact, developing enduring relationships, making effective decisions, and delivering value
  • Prior experience driving engineering products to closure on NASA’s Orion program or another NASA human rated program
  • Proficient with CAD, mechanisms, or analysis tools such as CREO, Adams, or Nastran
  • Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and quickly and efficiently drive to closure
  • Willingness to mentor and develop junior engineers
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $118000.00 - $219100.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
