Job summary

fab2 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, iterate on, and build specialized equipment for semiconductor fabrication. The role focuses on hands-on development, collaborating across mechanical, optical, and electronic domains to deliver viable production-ready solutions.

The ideal candidate has 2–7 years of experience in mechanical/electromechanical design, enjoys fast design cycles, and can own end-to-end processes. A portfolio of actual builds is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 2-7 years of professional experience in mechanical and electromechanical system design
• 2-7 years of hands-on experience building, prototyping, and assembling complex systems
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or Physics
• Experience in designing vacuum systems or fluid handling hardware
• Strong fundamentals in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer
• Demonstrated ability to design and ship machined and fabricated metal parts into working systems
• Comfortable working with pumps, valves, fittings, tubing, chambers, and thermal systems

Responsibilities

• Own semiconductor fabrication systems and subsystems end-to-end, including deposition, etch, annealing, and plasma tools, as well as subsystems such as mass flow controllers, pressure sensors, valves, and pumps.
• Design and iterate on machines and subsystems for semiconductor fabrication
• Create mechanical designs including frames, components, and assemblies
• Partner closely with the process, electrical, software, and production teams
• Source components and materials while working with vendors to meet project specifications
