Position Summary

The Principal Mechanical Engineer is a recognized technical authority within the Company, responsible for solving unusually complex engineering problems and developing highly innovative solutions. This position provides advanced mechanical engineering expertise in the design, development, integration, testing, evaluation, and modification of complex mechanical equipment and systems.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer is a recognized technical authority within the Company, responsible for solving unusually complex engineering problems and developing highly innovative solutions. This position provides advanced mechanical engineering expertise in the design, development, integration, testing, evaluation, and modification of complex mechanical equipment and systems.

The Principal Mechanical Engineer determines and pursues the technical approaches necessary to achieve desired results and applies advanced analytical, investigative, and engineering methods to address challenging technical requirements. The role requires a high degree of independent judgment, originality, and technical leadership while coordinating engineering, fabrication, testing, and field activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior-level mechanical engineering guidance and technical expertise for the design and development of complex mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Analyze unusually complex technical problems and develop innovative, practical solutions to meet program and customer requirements.
  • Determine theoretical principles and apply advanced analytical and investigative methods and techniques to engineering challenges.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and develop new applications for existing mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Develop new applications and designs requiring significant originality, creativity, and engineering judgment.
  • Analyze assigned tasks and develop estimates for required manpower, materials, equipment, and resources.
  • Prepare detailed schedules and plans for accomplishing engineering and technical tasks within established estimates and requirements.
  • Plan, organize, and lead development activities for assigned engineering projects or programs.
  • Coordinate manpower and technical resources across multiple activities and ensure effective integration throughout the various stages of a program.
  • Supervise and coordinate technicians involved in the fabrication, installation, testing, and integration of complex mechanical and related electronic equipment and systems.
  • Provide technical direction and support for field operations and maintenance activities associated with mechanical equipment and system installations, as required.
  • Evaluate operational systems and identify opportunities for modifications or improvements to eliminate malfunctions and address changing system requirements.
  • Develop complex test procedures for equipment and systems that differ significantly from existing designs.
  • Support system testing, evaluation, troubleshooting, and performance assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance to personnel responsible for developing engineering and fabrication drawings.
  • Review, evaluate, and correct drawings to ensure proper engineering practices, specifications, tolerances, and applicable requirements are incorporated.
  • Develop, release, review, and maintain engineering and technical documentation in accordance with company policies, contractual requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Review, write, and edit technical reports and documentation, including evaluation plans, test procedures, test results, technical manuals, engineering analyses, recommendations, and conclusions.
  • Provide recommendations and technical conclusions based on engineering analysis, testing, and evaluation activities.
  • Coordinate with engineering, technical, program, and operations personnel to ensure successful execution and integration of assigned activities.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to engineers, technicians, and other personnel supporting mechanical engineering activities.
  • Ensure engineering activities are completed in accordance with applicable quality, safety, contractual, and technical requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 10-12 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or PhD with 5-7 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering design, development, integration, testing, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems using advanced engineering principles and analytical techniques.
  • Experience developing and modifying complex mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, engineering drawings, test procedures, evaluation plans, and technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise significant technical judgment.
  • Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and provide technical direction to engineers, technicians, and other technical personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical activities and priorities while meeting established schedules and requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience supporting complex government or defense programs.
  • Experience with systems integration, test and evaluation, field operations, or sustainment activities.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or other relevant professional certification.
Equal Pay Act

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories. In addition, Arcfield's benefits offerings include, dependent upon position, Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, Holiday Pay, Short Term and Long-Term Disability, Retirement and Savings, Learning and Development opportunities, wellness programs as well as other optional benefit elections. Min: $121,506.18 Max: $211,275.66
