Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in engineering or related field with progressive engineering experience.
  • Expertise in thermal/CFD analysis with emphasis on closed-form calculations.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Workbench or similar tools.
  • Experience with HPC for thermal/CFD simulations is desired.
  • Programming in MATLAB or Python preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides thermal analysis for lasers, sensors, electronics, motors, batteries, and space payloads.
  • Provides practical solutions and insights to thermal management problems.
  • Documents findings and communicates reports and presentations at engineering meetings.
  • Communicates technical issues and results to internal teams and customers as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to safety procedures.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Thermal Analyst in Rancho Bernardo, CA. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics with experience performing thermal and CFD analyses for broad range of applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides thermal analysis for lasers, advanced sensors, nuclear and nuclear thermal propulsion, electronics, electric motors, battery systems, space payloads and orbital satellite systemss.
  • Provides practical solutions and insight to problems related to thermal management.
  • Documents findings and communicates reports and technical presentations at engineering meetings and participates in program reviews.
  • Provides technical communication within the company management and may represent the company as a technical contact to customers.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice in the field of thermal/CFD analysis. Prior experience with closed form (by-hand) calculations is required.
  • Proficient using thermal and CFD simulation software including ANSYS Fluent, Siemens STAR-CCM+ and ANSYS Workbench or other similar tools is required.
  • Experience with High Performance Computing for thermal/CFD simulations is desired.
  • Experience with programing in Matlab (preferred), Python, or similar is desired.
  • Experience with conceptual sizing and detailed analysis of thermal management solutions for a variety of real-world military and industrial environments is desired.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate engineering issues, solutions, and analysis results verbally to audiences with varying technical depth and experience.
  • Must be able to effectively document and present designs, analysis and/or test results in the form of briefing packages, drawings, documents and reports.
  • Must be able to understand and apply new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required
