Job summary

Location: Beaverton, OR

Tektronix is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Product Line Engineering team, supporting the development and sustainment of industry-leading oscilloscopes, probes, and accessories. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Program Management, Marketing, Procurement, and Manufacturing to develop innovative Test & Measurement solutions while driving continuous improvement across existing product lines.

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on mechanical engineer with a passion for transforming customer requirements into robust, manufacturable electro‑mechanical products. This position requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a small engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and sustain electro‑mechanical products for Test & Measurement applications.
  • Partner with Operations and suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability, quality, and cost.
  • Support product sustainment, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create and validate mechanical designs through prototyping, testing, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead or contribute to small engineering projects from concept through production.
  • Drive innovative solutions for thermal, structural, and mechanical challenges.
  • Support occasional travel as required.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME/MSME)
Experience
  • 6+ years of electro‑mechanical product design experience.
  • Experience designing products containing electronic assemblies.
  • Experience working with manufacturing teams and external suppliers.
  • Experience in product prototyping, testing, validation, and design evaluation.
  • Experience leading small engineering projects.
Technical Expertise
Mechanical Design
  • Expert knowledge of sheet metal design, fabrication, GD&T, tolerancing, and assembly techniques.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize chassis designs for structural integrity and strength‑to‑weight performance.
  • Ability to visualize system‑level assembly requirements and integrate them into overall product architecture.
  • Experience designing:
    • Plastic components
    • Machined parts
    • Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
    • Cable assemblies
CAD & Engineering Tools
  • Advanced proficiency with:
    • Creo
    • Windchill
  • Experience with Creo Simulate is preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
Thermal Analysis
  • Strong thermal design and analysis experience.
  • Experience using CFD tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to develop thermal models from CAD concepts and correlate simulation results with empirical data.
  • Experience performing thermal analysis from component‑level designs through complete system‑level models.
Manufacturing & Product Development
  • Understanding of production and assembly processes for electronic equipment.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes and applications.
  • Ability to design independently and execute projects with minimal supervision.
Analytical Skills
  • Strong problem‑solving capabilities with a data‑driven approach.
  • Experience applying statistics and Design of Experiments (DOE) techniques to engineering challenges.
  • Ability to evaluate and optimize designs using dynamic, thermal, and EMC considerations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RF interconnects and shielding design.
  • Experience in Test & Measurement instrumentation or related high‑technology products.
  • Experience supporting products throughout their full lifecycle, including sustainment engineering and value engineering initiatives.
