Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a mechanical engineer to support R&D programs and production contracts, focusing on structural and thermal analysis of space hardware. You will lead analysis, CAD design, and test activities within a cross-disciplinary team.

The candidate will work on packaging electronics subsystems and opto-mechanical mechanisms, requiring hands-on assembly and strong documentation skills, while complying with ITAR/EAR regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering required.
5 years' mechanical engineering experience in space systems or related fields.
Structural and thermal analysis including FEA and thermal conduction.
Design using CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
Tolerance analysis and GD&T practices.
Space hardware design, integration, and test.
Strong technical writing for engineering docs (reports, specs).
Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
5 years' mechanical engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
Structural and thermal analysis including analytical calculations and FEA (stress analysis, modal analysis, thermal conduction analysis, bolt loads, etc.)
Design using CAD software, ideally experience with SolidWorks
Tolerance analysis and GD&T practices
Space hardware design, analysis, integration, and test
Strong technical writing skills applicable to engineering documentation (analysis reports, specifications, requirements documents, etc.).
Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance
All other duties as assigned

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

5+ years' experience in mechanical engineering of space systems
Strong verbal communication skills needed for customer interaction at design reviews, supplier interaction, etc.
Ability to quickly adapt to various projects and types of work and to work several projects simultaneously while managing time and priorities
Ability to work independently or as part of a development team
Experience and willingness to be hands on during hardware assembly, integration, and test
Current US security clearance.

Physical Demands

Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment (Constant)
Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)

The Salary Range For This Role Is

$91,000 - $138,750
