Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Hardware Mechanical Engineer in Huntsville, AL to analyze complex systems and develop structural solutions. You will establish design concepts for product development, integration, and test, while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with a large product team.

The role requires an active Secret Clearance, a STEM degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, and at least 2 years of CAD experience, plus experience with MIL-STDs and various engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Active Secret Clearance required for role.
• Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (STEM) required.
• Minimum 2 years design experience with a 3D CAD package (SolidWorks, Creo, or NX).
• Experience drafting and reviewing 2D drawings.
• PLM experience (SAP).
• Experience evaluating vendor documents.
• Familiar with MIL STDs; knowledge areas include system planning, requirements derivation, functional analysis, and more.
• Experience with analytical software tools to identify key characteristics and trends.
• Experience with mission-critical and safety-critical systems.
• Agile or Kanban workflow experience (Jira).
• Familiarity with MDA Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS.
• Hands-on with GMD Launch Support Systems hardware.
• Experience with FEA/Modeling using ANSYS, ABAQUS, NX Simcenter, etc.
• Experience with full product development workflow from design to deployment.
• Strong communication and ability to mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

Skills and Requirements

Active Secret Clearance

STEM Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

2 years of design experience using a 3D CAD package (such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX)

Experience drafting and reviewing 2D drawings

PLM system experience (such as SAP)

Experience evaluating vendor documents

Familiar with MIL STDs Experience in one or more of the following system engineering knowledge areas: technical planning, requirements derivation, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, cost and risk analysis, interface definition, system design, system integration, verification and validation, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards; demonstrated experience in structural design and impact assessments.

Mentoring and cross-training junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.

Experience using analytical software tools, to analyze and reduce data to identify key characteristics and trends.

Experience with mission critical and safety critical systems, components, etc.

Experience with Agile or Kanban workflow, including tools such as Jira

Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)

Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware

Hands-on mentality and a passion for fast-paced environments.

Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Modeling theory and application using industry standard structural analysis software (ANSYS, GTStrudl, ABAQUS, STAAD, Femap, NX Simcenter, NASTRAN, Creo Simulation or SolidWorks Simulation)

DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure

Experience with full product development workflow, initial design, analysis, revision, release, production.

Experience with metrics driven process improvement.

Prior experience with the design, test, and/or integration and deployment of mechanical and structural components, systems, or subsystems

Strong self-starter with excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, capable of communicating complex concepts clearly and concisely. Demonstrates the ability to produce high-quality work independently, multitask effectively, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment while adapting to changing directions.
