Job summary

STQ Partners in Houston seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own the design of engineered-to-order power distribution equipment. You will develop enclosures, structures, and bus layouts, partnering with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality to deliver reliable, manufacturable assemblies.

The role focuses on electrical equipment such as switchgear, MCCs, and enclosures, with emphasis on 3D CAD, sheet metal fabrication, and compliance with UL/NEMA/IEEE/ANSI standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of mechanical design experience with electrical equipment.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD and sheet metal design.
• Familiarity with UL, NEMA, IEEE/ANSI requirements for electrical enclosures.

Responsibilities

• Design enclosures, structures, doors, barriers and internal assemblies for switchgear, MCCs and power distribution equipment.
• Develop 3D models, fabrication drawings and assembly drawings for sheet metal and bus components.
• Design bus bar layouts considering clearances and current carrying requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical engineering to integrate components into compact layouts.
• Ensure arc-resistance, enclosure ratings, seismic requirements and outdoor enclosures where applicable.
• Plan shipping splits, lifting provisions and structural integrity for transport and site installation.
• Apply design for manufacturing to sheet metal, fabrication, welding, powder coating and assembly processes.
