Job summary

System One is seeking a Mechanical Engineer PE II in Creve Coeur, MO for a hybrid on-site/remote role. The ideal candidate holds a PE license, has 7+ years of design experience, and can lead portions of energy and infrastructure projects for campuses.

You will develop code-compliant, constructible HVAC, hydronic, and thermal plant designs, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and sign/off on engineering documents.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Independently applies advanced engineering techniques to design and coordinate mechanical systems for energy and infrastructure projects.
• Leads portions of projects, developing code-compliant, constructible designs for HVAC, hydronic, and thermal plant systems.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate designs with existing facilities, supports permitting, procurement, and field conditions.
• Produces accurate calculations and documentation, delivering systems that meet performance, reliability, and energy efficiency objectives.
• Responsible for signing and sealing engineering documents.
• Leads design and analysis of mechanical systems for projects of moderate complexity.
• Develops project deliverables including calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Implements improvements to existing systems and supports development of new solutions.
• Prepares detailed system configurations and control schemes emphasizing long-term energy savings.
• Conducts field investigations and supports site visits.
• Coordinates and plans 3D laser scanning efforts.
• Coordinates with internal disciplines and supports construction-phase activities.
• Performs work with a high degree of latitude, resolving complex technical issues independently.
• Provides informal mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Interfaces directly with clients on technical matters.
• May act as task lead or discipline lead on projects.

The Mechanical Professional Engineer II (PE II) independently applies advanced engineering techniques to design and coordinate mechanical systems for energy and infrastructure projects across hospital and college campuses. This role leads portions of projects, developing code-compliant, constructible designs for HVAC, hydronic, and thermal plant systems while solving complex technical challenges. The PE II collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to integrate designs with existing facilities, supports permitting and procurement, and addresses field conditions. Responsibilities include producing accurate calculations and documentation and delivering systems that meet performance, reliability, and energy efficiency objectives consistent with design-build delivery model.

Requirements

• 7+ years of design experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems and design practices.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary deliverables.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.

Additional Details

• 10-25% travel to job sites.
• Prolonged periods of office work sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Occasional field survey in loud, peak/low temperatures, and/or elevated locations.
• Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Light work involving objects up to 20 pounds.
