Job summary

Fabri, based in the greater Boston area, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and build the equipment that powers every step of our casting process. You will own mechanical systems from concept to commissioned hardware, working with process engineers to turn requirements into machines for the production floor.

This mid-level role involves hands-on development, owning equipment from CAD through fabrication, assembly, and commissioning while shaping Fabri's throughput and scalability as we grow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 2–5 years designing and building equipment or vehicle systems.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor and strong GD&T/DFM skills.
• Track record of taking equipment from CAD to working hardware.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom manufacturing equipment and subsystems, from requirements definition through detailed design.
• Translate process requirements into mechanical designs and use equipment capabilities to open new regimes.
• Fabricate and assemble equipment hands-on, from machined components to integrated systems.
• Commission new equipment on the shop floor and bring it into production.
• Write test plans and perform acceptance testing before production entry.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures to root cause and implement fixes.
• Design guarding/interlocks informed by hazard analysis.
• Design fixtures and material handling systems to move parts between steps.
• Produce detailed drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
• Track interfaces across subsystems and assess downstream impact of design changes.
• Integrate sensors/actuators to support automation.
• Design equipment for manufacturability and maintainability as Fabri scales throughput.
• Present designs at stage-gated reviews and document rationale.
