Job summary

Sofidel UK is recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to join the Papermill team in Hamilton, Leicester. The role focuses on reducing downtime, improving machine performance, and supporting continuous improvement in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Working within an established engineering team, you will develop skills, take on responsibility, and contribute to safety, quality and performance targets across the site.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Recognised apprenticeship or degree in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• FMCG / Heavy industry experience.
• At least 4 years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide first hand intervention during mechanical breakdowns and assist with troubleshooting.
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance as per standards and plans.
• Check equipment and operating systems and correct where necessary.
• Ensure mechanical operations and controls meet high quality standards.
• Perform maintenance care and assist in equipment repair as needed.
• Contribute to quality improvements, cost reductions and productivity.
• Oversee mechanical devices and use testing instruments.
• Maintain downtime and inform production staff on preventive maintenance.

You’ll play a key role in reducing downtime, improving machine performance, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide first hand intervention when there is amechanical breakdown and assist with troubleshooting of equipment problems
• Repair and perform preventive maintenance as per established standards and plans
• To check equipment and operating systems and correct wherever necessary
• To ensure mechanical operations, standards and controls are maintained at high quality
• Complete maintenance care obligations and render assistance in equipment repair as necessary
• To perform quality improvement and cost reduction and productivity as obligated
• To oversee mechanical devices while in operation and listen for complications using accurate testing and measuring instruments
• To take out inoperative parts by disassembling devices with the use specific tools
• Regulate downtime by enlightening production staff on standard preventive maintenance methods
• Maintain records and files if requested
• To participate in emergency on-call duty on a rotational basis and work all shifts flexibly when job demands
• Ensure a high level of housekeeping of the working area is maintained throughout the shift
• To ensure health & safety rules are adhered to

REQUIREMENTS

Proven hands‑on experience within a manufacturing environment

Recognised apprenticeship or degree within the field of : mechanical engineering/electrical engineering/engineering

FMCG / Heavy industry experience

Atleast 4 years of experience

WORKING HOURS

42 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30
