Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Tampa, Florida. This role is based on a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office work 3 days a week. You will apply your knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to support mechanical systems in power plants, alongside other engineers.

Responsibilities include preparing technical reports for client recommendations and conducting equipment sizing. Candidates should have a BSME or MSME degree with at least 2 years of CAD experience, alongside a strong interest in engineering problem-solving.

Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of experience with CAD software.
  • 3 or more years of experience in the practical application of mechanical engineering.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Job description

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, and technical reports to support client recommendations and reviews, conduct equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection in response to project needs.
  • Support project teams with other Mechanical Engineers and be involved in system engineering, including the design, modification, and analysis of power plant mechanical systems.
  • Potential travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
Qualifications
  • BSME or MSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • 2 or more years of experience with CAD software, such as AutoCAD or Revit.
  • 3 or more years of experience in the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology including applying systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to a project design.
  • 3 years of experience in design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, fabrication drawings, and models.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training.
  • Strong interest in numerical computations and problem solving.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Valued But Not Required Skills And Experience
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for Mechanical Engineering calculations.

  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.

Compensation Range: $74,353 - $113,595
