Robson Forensic is seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Manufacturing/End-User Products Expert to join our team. You are a P.E. with 10+ years in manufacturing or end-user product design and will apply that expertise to determine why incidents occurred, working on cases that affect industry and public safety.

You will investigate incidents, analyze safeguards and instructions, write clear reports, and provide expert testimony. Hybrid travel across multiple U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related field from ABET/EAC accredited school.
  • Active P.E. license or E.I.T./F.E. with 4 years experience and ability to sit for P.E. exam.
  • 10+ years hands-on manufacturing or end-user product experience in design, installation, startup, and maintenance.
  • Experience designing or specifying equipment, products, or processes.
  • Familiarity with forklifts, cranes, conveyors, robotics, and utility systems.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, ASME, ASTM, SAE and related standards.
  • Strong writing and communication skills; able to translate findings for non-engineers.
  • Clean background, valid driver’s license, and ability to travel.

You are already an expert. Robson Forensic will train you to be a forensic expert.

You are a P.E. who has spent 10 years or more inmanufacturing and/or end-user product design. This role asks you to bring that same judgment to a different question: why an incident happened. You will work alongside nationally respected experts on casework that is consequential to industry and society, and you will keep learning for the rest of your career.

Prior forensic experience is not required. We hire for deep industry knowledge and teach the rest.

What you will do:

  • Investigate manufacturing and/or end-user product incidents.
  • Analyze safeguards, instructions, warnings, & foreseeable uses/misuses of products/equipment.
  • Write clear, scientifically sound reports.
  • Provide expert testimony.

Potential litigation/claims include manufacturing equipment, material handling, hand/power tools, plant layouts, and the safe design of industrial, commercial, and consumer products.

What we require:

  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or an E.I.T./F.E. with the required 4 years of experience and ability to sit for the P.E. exam.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, and/or other closely related field of Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited school.
  • Experience: 10+ years of hands-on manufacturing and production experience, including design, installation, start-up, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a variety of manufacturing equipment and/or end-user products.
  • Expertise must include design or specification for equipment, products, or processes.
  • Other expertise should include familiarity of material handling systems that include forklifts, aerial lifts, cranes, and/or conveyors, manufacturing facility operation and maintenance processes, including work cells and robotics, utility systems (steam, water, air, gas, etc.), safety processes/procedures used in the design of products placed into the stream of commerce and/or in the research/development of novel mechanical systems; design/specification of machine guarding, warnings, safety instructions.
  • Industry standards:Experience using ANSI, ASME, ASTM, SAE, and other industry standards.
  • Skills: Strong technical, analytical, writing, and communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical findings for non-engineers.
  • Other: A clean background screen, a driver’s license, and the ability to drive.

Experience that helps, though not required:

  • Experience and training in the Reliability-Centered Maintenance process.
  • Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Root cause failure analysis.
  • Hazard analysis/risk assessments.

Work style:

Approximately 20% of the role is travel for training and inspections. The remainder is analysis and report writing, working independently and as part of a collaborative team. Our experts offer and receive support/mentoring in a firm with over 100 scientists, engineers, and other professionals and manage a portfolio of 50-70 projects/clients.
