Mechanical Engineer
Location: Santa Clara, CA
Salary: $147,000.00 - $202,500.00
Responsibilities
- Identify and troubleshoot a wide range of complex mechanical problems with limited to no supervision
- Lead or execute engineering projects, including the development of key suppliers
- Develop, design, or modify engineering layouts, schematics, or drawings/specifications of complex scope
- Communicate with internal and external customers regarding a wide range of complex mechanical issues for specific projects
- Implement concepts for a range of complex product issues and solutions
- Design, develop and implement custom mechanical tooling, fixturing and associated processes; enable the handling, assembly and/or disassembly of parts, components, sub‑assemblies, and final assemblies; establish standards across operational processes; serve as a technical expert on specialized projects or programs
- Generate product specifications
- Define, coordinate, perform and generate engineering test reports; specify and review engineering documentation; specify or perform complex engineering analysis
- Clearly communicate complex concepts and influence various perspectives
Team Overview
Candidate will join a dynamic hardware engineering team that pushes the boundary on developing impactful and differentiated engineering products for addressing customers’ high value problems in performance improvement, lifetime improvement, cost of ownership of products, material selection and failure analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Work on understanding mechanical designs of various hardware; create new designs for performance improvement; troubleshoot designs to address performance failures.
- Work on test fixtures to conduct experiments to validate and extend product performance.
- Work with suppliers for developing product solutions.
- Understand product specifications, propose improvements and generate documentation with updated specifications.
- Make presentations of hardware capabilities, new designs and improvements in design review forum to a broad audience.
- Manage personal deliverables of projects and maintain timelines, under general guidance.
- Effectively communicate project-related information to stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 7-10 years of experience
- Subject‑matter expertise with CAD software, thermodynamics, sheet metal design, material selection, manufacturing methods, GD&T, flow analysis and/or Design for Excellence principles
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Applied Materials product life cycle, including prototyping, packaging, material selection and manufacturing methods
Technical Skills
- Fundamental understanding of Mechanical Engineering concepts
- Fundamental understanding of engineering mechanics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics
- Skilled in Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) software, preferably in Siemens NX
- Fundamental understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Basic knowledge of materials, their properties and their application in mechanical design
- Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is preferable.
