Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, thermodynamic, or heat transfer
• Support vendor selection and ensure smooth transition to the operations team
• Develop and implement detailed work instructions for assembly, integration, and testing processes
• Engage in hands‑on hardware assembly, test execution, data analysis, and report writing
• Identify and implement risk mitigation strategies throughout development activities
• Leads development of strategic tasks or small to mid-size projects by applying engineering and organizational knowledge and expertise to achieve technical goals
• Provides technical input to Project or Engineering Management in linking project‑related strategy to achieve business goals
• Monitors the project from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spending
• Understands and interprets the technical, organizational and process aspects of the task assigned and can relate them to the technical needs of the overall project or organization
• Plans and executes small to mid‑size projects or task elements within larger projects, organizations, or for groups of projects
• Responsible for the completion of assigned engineering tasks or mid‑size projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines
• Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering tasks or small projects within area of assigned responsibility
• Actively uncovers technical and organizational risks and ensures they are included in risk mitigation plans
• Participates in development of program strategies and teaming strategies as they relate to the assigned project
• Participates in the development of executable project plans on proposal
• Provides technical support for vehicle testing, durability testing, and subsystem testing
• Mentors lower labor grades in mechanical principles and project performance
• Must be able to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams

Knowledge and Skills

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field
• Also requires 5+ years of job‑related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job‑related experience. Having 2-5 years of supervisory experience is preferred
• Knowledge of GD&T principles and techniques
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within team settings
• Desire to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment with a focus on delivering consistent, quality results on tight timelines
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and anticipate team needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety, redundancy, and compliance is a plus
• Ability to hold/obtain Secret Clearance
• Defense industry experience is a plus
• Green Card or US Citizenship

Physical Effort

• Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate.

Working Conditions

• Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises.
• Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace.
• Listening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately.
