Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC in Boston, MA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Hardware NPI team. You will design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components for rechargeable energy accessories, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to move concepts from concept to manufacturing release.

You will work with suppliers and contract manufacturers worldwide, perform DOE-based validation, create 3D models, drawings, and BOMs, and communicate changes clearly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
  • 2+ years of experience designing complex mechanical products, preferably consumer electronics/wearables/medical devices.
  • SolidWorks CAD best practices including advanced assemblies, complex surfacing, configuration management and DFx feedback.

As a Mechanical Engineer II on the Hardware NPI Team at the company, you will contribute to the design and development of the company’s innovative hardware solutions - rechargeable energy accessories. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to help bring innovative concepts to life, supporting prototyping, mechanical design, and testing efforts. You will work closely with our suppliers and contract manufacturers around the world to execute engineering validation builds with a focus on high quality deliverables, sharp engineering risk management, clear technical communication upwards and externally, and commitment to product excellence. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own critical parts of the next generation the company Hardware Products
  • Design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components around microelectronics, meeting stringent technical, performance, and industrial design requirements to guide projects from concept through manufacturing release.
  • Develop and present multiple design solutions for novel and complex technical challenges, articulating them clearly to cross-functional teams and documenting design process and specifications thoroughly.
  • Generate technical documentation such as 3D files, 2D drawings, bills of material (BOM’s), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) following product development cycle timeline
  • Communicate engineering requests and changes to vendors and contract manufacturers as the product development cycle progresses
  • Support planning and execution of verification and validation plans, leveraging design of experiments (DOE) methodologies to drive understanding, uncover insights, and deliver actionable results that enhance product quality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Support and perform thorough engineering root cause analyses to identify and resolve issues
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate new technologies and manufacturing methods.
  • Up to 20% travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers internationally
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products, preferably for consumer electronics, wearables, or medical devices.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD best practices, including advanced assemblies, complex surfacing, configuration management and applying DFx feedback.
  • Hands-on experience in operating and maintaining rapid prototyping tools to craft proof-of-concept models.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Experience in high-quality consumer electronics or wearable technologies preferred.
  • Familiarity with validation testing methods and statistical analysis tools preferred.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal design, metal injection molding) and manual assembly preferred.
  • Working experience in a fast-paced or startup environment preferred.
  • A passion for health, or wearable technologies; and designing human-centered solutions in this space.

This role is based in the the company office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000-$150,000. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.

In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package.

These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
