Overview

Verathon is looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to become the newest member of our Urology R&D team located in Bothell, WA. This role is expected to work primarily on-site at our Bothell facility and will design and develop mechanical systems and components for an exciting program targeted at improving patient outcomes in bladder volume measurement using ultrasound technology - offering the opportunity to contribute to Verathon's market-leading BladderScan product line within Verathon's established new product development framework.The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for mechanical design, analysis, and development of medical device components and subsystems. This includes contributing to the translation of system requirements into detailed mechanical designs, conducting engineering analysis (stress, thermal, tolerance), developing and testing prototypes, supporting design verification and validation testing, and ensuring designs are manufacturable and meet regulatory compliance standards. Utilizing Verathon's NPD process and Quality Management System, the Mechanical Engineer II works on problems of moderate scope and builds productive working relationships across systems engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as technical contributor for major development projects or multiple simultaneous projects
  • Ensure that engineering design activities follow the development procedure and maintain strict design control
  • Create and release product requirements, design specifications and design descriptions for assigned projects, as required by applicable medical device standards and internal procedures
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders as well as manufacturing resources to design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Design robust systems using knowledge of manufacturing processes capabilities and component tolerances requirements.
  • Research design options and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility or remediate previous designs.
  • Manage project scope, and coordinate proposals and expense controls. Develop business justifications and cost proposals for capital equipment, prototyping, and V&V activities.
  • Research, and implement emerging technologies to advance medical device design using appropriate materials, and technology that can be transferred to production and manufacturing systems
  • Design of 3D models and 2D drawings including but not limited to injection molded plastic, machined components, dynamic systems, stamped sheet metal and integrated systems
  • Knowledge and use of additive manufacturing technologies in part design and prototyping is required
  • Sharing of knowledge within the team through mentoring, formal and informal instruction
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or relevant engineering field of study is required.
  • Experience with solid modeling; SolidWorks preferred
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in the medical device industry or other highly regulated industry is preferred
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced with MathCAD, Minitab, and Python is preferred
  • Product development experience in medical device environment specific to diagnostic imaging is preferred
  • Knowledge of design for injection molding is preferred.

Salary range - $96,985 - $118,400 (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).

Full-time employees who are not on a commission plan are eligible for Verathon’s annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
