Job summary

Autonomous Medical Devices Incorporated (AMDI) in Santa Ana, CA is hiring a Mechanical Engineer I to join our onsite R&D team. You will design, build, and test new medical devices, creating and updating 3D CAD models, drawings, and verification activities.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, cross-functional collaboration, and rapid prototyping in a regulated environment. The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with at least 2 years of mechanical design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
• Familiarity with GD&T principles.
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

AMDI is headquartered in Santa Ana, CA where it manufactures the Fast PCR Mini Respiratory Panel in an ISO:13485 / MDSAP certified 110,000 square foot facility.

Location

This is an onsite position located at our Santa Ana, CA office. Candidates living within a 25 mile range preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and provide hands on development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for medical devices
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings
• Participate in design reviews, risk analyses, and design verification activities
• Support prototype builds, lab testing, and engineering evaluations
• Develop test setups and assist in design verification and validation (V&V) testing
• Work with cross-functional teams including Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing
• Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical or system-level issues
• Prepare and maintain design documentation in accordance with the company’s Design Control procedures
• Support design transfer activities to manufacturing
• Assist in the selection and evaluation of materials, components, and suppliers
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance product performance, reliability, and manufacturability
• May take on additional tasks/projects as the need arise

Qualifications Required for Position

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering degree
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering. Experience working on product development projects is preferred
• Excellent hand dexterity and coordination is a must as the position requires reaching, bending, assembling and some standing
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks)
• Familiarity with engineering drawings and GD&T principles
• Basic understanding of mechanical analysis, materials, and manufacturing processes
• Experience with prototyping tools and lab equipment is a plus
• Basic knowledge of statistical analysis or data analysis tools is beneficial
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, machining, etc.) preferred
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a strong attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment

Work Environment

• In-person position that requires working indoors with some movements, bending, and lifting
• Work at a desk on a computer and in an Engineering lab with prototyping tools.
• Will work in a manufacturing environment and a laboratory environment.
• Frequently required to wear personal protective gear to prevent exposure to hazardous materials typically found in the lab environment
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs

Salary Range

The estimated base salary range for this position is $65,000 – $85,000 annually . If the level of the role changes during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. The actual base salary offered will be determined by several factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant’s qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, and level of education attained.
