Job summary

Sierra Space is hiring an entry-level Mechanical Engineer I to support senior engineers in mechanical systems, propulsion, and structures. You will collect data, assist in analysis, and help prepare technical documents. Clear communication and teamwork are essential as you contribute to project goals and deadlines.

You will work with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks) and may need to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Entry-level 0–2 years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Ability to work in a team and follow guidance from senior engineers.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

About The Role The entry-level Mechanical Engineer I role focuses on supporting senior engineers in various projects related to mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, or environmental systems. The position involves assisting in the analysis, design, and evaluation of mechanical systems and components, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing technical documentation and reports. The role requires clear communication skills, the ability to follow instructions effectively, and a collaborative approach to achieving project goals and meeting deadlines.

You will collect and analyze data related to mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, structural analysis, or environmental systems to support engineering objectives. Additionally, you will contribute to the resolution of routine technical problems of limited scope and complexity. Preparing technical documentation and reports to communicate findings and support project objectives will be a key part of your responsibilities. You will work effectively within cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and meet deadlines, while clearly communicating technical concepts and information both verbally and in writing to ensure alignment and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree).
  • Typically, entry-level 0 - 2 years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of Mechanical Engineering technical principles, standards, theories, and concepts.
  • Basic application and use of technical principles, standards, theories, and concepts.
  • Ability to help develop solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope and complexity.
  • Ability to work in a team and follow guidance from senior engineers.
  • Clear verbal and written communication of technical concepts and information.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or co-op experience in a mechanical engineering or related environment.
  • Familiarity with design, analysis, and test methods related to mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, and/or environmental systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks, or similar including a familiarity with detail drawing standards and GD&T.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop new skills in a collaborative and dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, material sciences, and their impact on mechanical systems.

Compensation:

Pay Range:

$77,234.00 - $106,196.75

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
